In a bid to hasten vaccination in California, reduce the spread of COVID-19, and get back to normalcy, mass vaccination centers are being opened in the various counties in California. According to studies, California has vaccinated about 2% of the population since the mass vaccination program started.
Things are currently quite slow in the state. As of 14th January, California was said to have administered only about 891,489 doses which is more than any other state in the US.
Governor Newsom’s tier vaccination system has been criticized because of how slow people are getting vaccinated in the state.
Dr. Mark Ghaly, California’s secretary of health and human services said, “The idea that our tiering and phases has slowed us down … we have certainly begun to address that,”
How People Are Getting Vaccinated in California
According to the state’s tiered vaccination system, the state is currently in its first phase of vaccination. And as Governor Newsom puts it, “vaccinating the vaccinators.” People in these category include health care workers and longterm care residents.
But because of the many complaints from Californians about how slow this method is taking, the Governor has eased the rules to allow anyone older than 65 years to get vaccinated.
“With our hospitals crowded and ICUs full, we need to focus on vaccinating Californians who are at highest risk of becoming hospitalized to alleviate stress on our health care facilities,” Dr. Tomás Aragón, director of the California Department of Public Health, said in a statement
Mass Vaccination Sites Currently Available in California
- Disneyland in Orange County
- Dodger Stadium in LA County
- Long Beach Convention Center
- CalExpo fairgrounds in Sacramento County (vaccinating frontline workers only)
Where can you go to get vaccinated?
In a bid to help in the fight against COVID-19, we hope to provide COVID-19 vaccinations at Lifeline Health locations soon. For the meantime, to find a vaccination site near you, visit the CDC website and see where they are offered.
We will continue to offer testing services at our locations.
